2009 Pond From Start To Finish

15/09/09

The UK weather has not been kind this summer and we have had to face day after day of rain, which is not good for glass fibre laminating.

Sean Hunter of TopPonds finally managed to complete the work to both pond and filters and has done his usual perfect job although he had to keep a very careful eye on the weather conditions.

This shot shows the filter units completed but the pond – also completed has to be kept covered to keep unwanted debris out when the land surrounding has to be back-filled to reach ground level.

This shows the ground level after it has been filled. There is a 24” depth of topsoil now for planting and landscaping purposes.

It also shows the electrical switchgear and supplies for all items in the equipment housing.

Dimensions have been taken for the filter media blocks and are now being prepared.

The rock boulders have been selected for landscaping and are due for delivery soon. This will be the next stage of the project.

The filter area is now being decked to give a base for a summerhouse that is being constructed to plans made in advance. There will be easy access points for all parts of the filter system and equipment housing for maintenance and servicing as well as storage for all Koi-related items. When completed there will be no immediate signs of a filter system or any equipment and pipelines when viewed by visitors. The overall finished view will be of a pond containing Koi and the landscaping of the surrounding garden area.

The pointing between and behind the rocks has been completed. The next task is to seal the areas with four coats of G4 resin. After this has been completed, the entire pond will be cleaned out thoroughly before the system is filled for the first time.

Whilst the teahouse work continues, the landscaping work around the pond is being gradually worked on before plants can be added to give some height to the overall picture.
